AM5716: Motor control on M4

Part Number: AM5716
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5706,

Hi,

Let me talk about AM571x/5706 for motor control.

AM571x is support EnDAT. but I do not see software.

I saw this thread.

e2e.ti.com/.../2011135

I have 2 questions.

(1)Do you have any update for motor control of AM57x? After this post.

(2)I want to work motor using Cortex-M4.
Does Cortex-M4 in AM57x has Capability ?
Can you tell me your advice ?

Best Regards

  • The RTOS team have been notified. They will respond here.
  • Hi

(1)Do you have any update for motor control of AM57x? After this post.

    > I am sorry no. The AM57x family has the similar PRU architecture as the AM437x and a similar PWM capability.  It could be used in this manner. However, PRU-ICSS-Drives does not have motor control examples for the AM57x.

(2)I want to work motor using Cortex-M4.
    Does Cortex-M4 in AM57x has Capability ?
Can you tell me your advice ?

    > From an architectural standpoint the M4 has the connectivity to perform the application. However we ourselves have not explored this.  I have reached out to our wider TI team to see if there are related applications that we can draw upon to get more insight into the capabilities and limitations of the M4 in this type of application.

  • Hi, David

    Thank you for your reply.

Actually our customer need 1 chip solution for motor control and Field bus like a EtherCAT.

I think AM437x has capabilty for this 1 chip solution.

But AM437x can control motor by Cortex-A9 and PRU-ICSS.
My customer does not agree to use Cortex-A9.
Because Cortex-A9 is not good response of interrupt and misshit of cache.

I believe AM5716/AM5706 will be good solution for this 1 chip solutions,
if Cortex-M4 and PRU-ICSS can drive motor like EnDAT.

If you make a plane for some motor control software solutions using M4, Please let me know.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Hiroyasu

Thank you for the explanation. The best way to be notified of all announcements for Sitara Drives to select the Alert Me for the PRU-ICSS-Industrial-Drives on http://www.ti.com/tool/PRU-ICSS-INDUSTRIAL-SW .
