TPA3220: Configuration of PVDD Capacitor

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPA3220 and has questions.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

In the data sheet p24 Figure 44., In the configuration of Mono BTL, we designed a circuit with monaural 4 Ω and instantaneous maximum 10 W rated 5 W.

According to p16 9.2 Functional Block Diagrams,the H bridge power supply of each channel is independent,

(1) Is it necessary to connect only the PVDD terminal (pin 37, 38, 39) of the OUT1 channel to the electrolytic capacitor and the ceramics?

Is it unnecessary to connect a capacitor to the OUT2 channel when is not used?

Are these correct?

(2) Is it necessary to supply to PVDD (pin 30, 31, 32) of the OUT 2 channel when is not used?

Shinichi,

It is required to supply PVDD to all PVDD pins and connect the bulk cap to all PVDD pins. The device Undervoltage Protection requires this.

The customer understood your suggention, it was not power up when it didn't supply power to unused channel.

So, he has an additional question, coule you please advise.

How much is the minimum capacitance of unused channel OUTB of PVDD.

He'd like to use 22uF, is it possible to use?

Shinichi,

The customer can connect all the PVDD lines together and use the same one bulk capacitor for all PVDD lines. If that channel is unused, they can use a small cap like 22uF.

1μF capacitors are also connected to PVDD.

Is it possible to set 0.1 μF instead of 1 μF for unused channels?

It is hard to say since we never use the device like this.

I think it's no problem because there is not much current flowing in the unused channel.
