TAS5805M: Questions for TAS5805M efficiency

Part Number: TAS5805M

Hello Experts,

Recently we are testing the TAS5805M efficiency on tur EVM board, but the results look like not good as we expected - can you help to double check on this?

Test conditions:

1. 16V PVDD, 6ohm load, 2*10W output.

2. Running PPC3 in default register settings, FSW=768kHz, BD mode.

Test efficiency results:

Thanks.

  • Hi Jacky,
We are collecting the data for this case and will update you soon later. Thank you for the patience!
    Best regards,
    Shawn Zheng
  • Hi Jacky,

Have you bypassed external power consumption factors like LEDs on the EVM?

In addition, what is customer's expectation of efficiency?  Can they accept 1SPW mode?

Anyway, based on your condition, data will be shared with your on our MTS boards later.

    Regards,

    Alix Wan.

  • Hi Alix,

Have you bypassed external power consumption factors like LEDs on the EVM?

--Yes, as we removed the PVDD jumper to measure the audio amp current on our EVM board.

In addition, what is customer's expectation of efficiency?  Can they accept 1SPW mode?

--It is expected more than 85%, I don't think that 1SPW mode will help a lot in full power output conditions.

  • Hi Jacky,

The data measured by you is reasonable to our database. In order to meet customer's spec, please refer to :

Efficiency can be roughly estimated with the equation below:

Hence, I would recommend you to :

    1. Lower PVDD to 12V/13.5V, especially for FB case, 12V PVDD is strongly recommended.
    2. 1SPW mode is suggested to achieve better efficiency. My measured results will share with you by email.
    3. Increase value of inductor at the same time if necessary.

    Regards,

    Alix Wan.
