LM4951: What's the difference between LM4951 and LM4951A?

Part Number: LM4951

What's the difference between LM4951 and LM4951A, we have encountered click and pop problem after we displaced LM4951A with LM4951.

VDD is 7.5V and the speaker's nominal  value of resistance is 8 ohm.

The part of schematic document for LM4951 is attached below.

  • Hi,

the LM4951A contains an additional short circuit protection.

Regarding the click and pop problem: Your circuit differs from the datasheet recommendations. This can be the reason for the problems.

  • Hi,

The difference between these both devices is LM4951A contains a short circuit protection as Kai mentioned it.
I am not sure why the change of the device produces click and pop problem. Both devices have the click and pop circuitry eliminates noise during turn-on and turn-off transitions, but I think that the click and pop circuitry of LM4951A has been designed better than LM4951.
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this as these devices are very old and it is quite difficult to find this kind of information.
