[FAQ] Audio ADCs/CODECs: What should I do with unused inputs on the TLV320ADC and TLV320AIC family of devices?

  • TLV320ADC3100, TLV320ADC3101, TLV320ADC3001,TLV320AIC3203, TLV320AIC3253, TLV320AIC3204, TLV320AIC3254, TLV320AIC3206, TLV320AIC3256, TLV320AIC36, TLV320AIC3100, TLV320AIC3101, TLV320AIC3104, TLV320AIC3105, TLV320AIC3106, TLV320AIC3107, TLV320AIC3109, TLV320AIC3110, TLV320AIC3111, TLV320AIC3120, TLV320AIC3212, TLV320AIC3262, TLV320AIC3263 and TLV320AIC3268

The recommendation for unused inputs on TI's Audio ADCs and CODECs is to provide an AC termination to GND through a ~0.47uF capacitor to prevent noise-pickup on an un-terminated input.    The analog inputs have a DC bias on them so they should not be shorted directly to GND.  The ~0.47uF capacitor provides an open-circuit for the DC bias inside the device, but provides an AC short to GND for proper termination and noise-reduction.
