PCM4202: We meed to measure Decibel level of Audio signal from PCM4202

Part Number: PCM4202

Hello sir,

We need to implement VU meter Indication for incoming audio signal. Because We have plan to control VU meter LED's through Processor GPIO's

Any possibility of measuring  Decibel level of Audio signal in PCM4202 ADC using any of the digital signal.

Regards

Lakshmanan V

  • Hi Lakshmanan,

I don't think we can measure the decibel level for the DOUT (I2S stream) if that's what you are eluding to. Can you please restate your question or requirement for me to make sure I understand your question correctly?

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Ravi

  • Hi Lakshmanan,
We do not have any way to report out the input level internal to the device. You will need to take the output stream and post process the same to calculate the signal level for indicating the amplitude level on the input signal.

You can use any ADC you want for this. If your processor has I2S, then any of the usual audio converters will work. If your processor uses SPI, then look for a converter with an SPI interface.

For a simple metering application, the PCM4202 is way too expensive and "too good." Look for a part that's cheaper.
