TPA6100A2: looking for the lowest Supply Current OPAMP for driving 2X32 Ohm speaker of the headset

Part Number: TPA6100A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6101A2, TPA6132A2, TPA4411, , TPA6140A2, TPA6141A2

Hi Ivan Salazar,

Please help me to find the lowest Supply Current for driving 2X32 Ohm speaker of the headset.

I found the TPA6101A2  looked good as its data sheet said:  Low Supply Current ... 0,75 mA

The TPA6132A2 data sheet said that it 2.5mA supply current must higher than the TPA6101A2.

Waiting to hear from you....

Many Thanks

  • Hi David,

Old amplifiers like TPA6100A2 or TPA4411 have very low power consumption. Although the tradeoff would be that these are not GND centered devices, so considerably big capacitors are required at the outputs, and also you should take care of pop noise due to charge/discharge of these capacitors.
New devices like TPA6132A2 have integrated charge pump for a GND centered output, thus output AC-coupling capacitors are not required and pop noise performance is improved.
TPA6140A2/TPA6141A2 could be another option, this device generates HPVDD from an adjustable boost that supplies the internal charge pump. This is a Glass-G amplifier which means that HPVDD (and thus HPVSS) is adjusted based on the input signal for improved efficiency.
