TAS5760MD: TAS5760MD

Part Number: TAS5760MD

Hi I would like to find out how can I determine which capacitor value shall be used for bootstrap pins on TAS5760MD device.  Is there a relation between switching frequency (in my case 786 kHZ) and .22uf selected on the evaluation board.  Is there a way to select different capacitor values without changing the switching frequency?

  • Hi ASB,

The Booststrap cap truly related to PWM frequency, however, we still highly recommend keeping 0.22uF for all supported PWM switching frequency (includes 768kHz that you want to use) .

The reason is that booststrap cap needs a suitble value. which is not too large to make sure fully chargered during PWM switching and also not too small to make too low frequency audio without distortion.

  • Thanks,

If I were to change the PWM frequency what is the best way to calculate the bootstrap capacitor value.   The evaluation board is using ceramic capacitors with no polarity.  Is it possible to use capacitors with polarity, such as tantalum, or aluminum cans?  if yes how should they be connected to the circuit?

  • it is not proposed to use use capacitors with polarity, such as tantalum, or aluminum cans.
