TPA6132A2: TPA6132A2

Part Number: TPA6132A2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320DAC3100, TAS2505

I have a design with audio DAC for speakers and I need to connect headphones , Can I use TPA6132A2 as a current limiter? Is there any other device or design you can recommend?

  • Hi Ido,

    Welcome to e2e.

Let me verify if I understand correct your application:

    • You have a DAC with differential output, designed for speaker loads
    • You want to connect the differential DAC output to the input of the TPA6132A2 to drive a pair of headphones

I this correct? This should be possible to do. One thing you should take care of is the DAC output type, if it's class-D you would need an RC low-pass filter between the DAC and the HP amp.

What DAC are you using? We also have some DACs with speaker and HP output drivers like TAS2505 or TLV320DAC3100.

  • Hi Ivan,

    see answers in RED

Let me verify if I understand correct your application:

    • You have a DAC with differential output, designed for speaker loads - YES
    • You want to connect the differential DAC output to the input of the TPA6132A2 to drive a pair of headphones  - YES

I this correct? This should be possible to do. One thing you should take care of is the DAC output type, if it's class-D you would need an RC low-pass filter between the DAC and the HP amp. OK, I already have filter R=510ohm and cap=2.7nF.

What DAC are you using? WM8524CGEDT,

We also have some DACs with speaker and HP output drivers like TAS2505 or TLV320DAC3100.

I understand but I update an old design

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ido,

Thanks for the confirmation on the questions above.

Based on this your application using TPA6132A2 should be OK.
