LMX2594: Output signal waveform : sine/square ?

Part Number: LMX2594

I have measured the Output of LMX2594(EVB) at 29 MHz.

The output seems to be squarewave. Is it same for the output from 11 GHz to 15 GHz also ? I need a sinewave from 11 GHz to 15 GHz.

What is the Expected current drawing for Inductor pull up( suppose tuned for 5 dBm Output Power )  at 12GHz ?

And what is the expected output power at 29 MHz. I measured it as -2 dBm . Is it correct ?

  • Kiran,

For the inductor pull-up, the idea is it should be high impedance at the frequency of oscillation relative to 50 ohm (or whatever load impedance is). At 29 MHz, the inductor impedance is likely far less than 50 ohm and this is why you have lower power. At lower frequency, resistor, or resistor in series with inductor gives higher power.

At low frequencies, output looks more like a square wave, but at higher frequencies, it resembles more of a sine wave as the higher harmonics get rolled off.
