CDCL1810: I2C programming possible before clock appears on (CLKP, CLKN) input?

Dear Forum,

The CDCL1810 device defaults to 1:1 frequency division and enabled outputs. However, I would need a different division ratio from the very moment that the chip starts to receive the clock signal on its (CLKP, CLKN) input. Is it possible to program the chip via I2C and set the desired ratio before the clock signal is fed to the (CLKP, CLKN) inputs? If the clock signal is fed to these inputs after setting the ratio, will this ratio take effect immediately?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find satisfying information about this in the datasheet. Your help is highly appreciated.

  • Hi Daniel,

    I'm not very familiar with this device but I will try to help here.
    I wouldn't expect an issue if you program the device before the clock input is provided.
    Based on Figure 5, I would expect the ratio to take effect immediately after a register write.
