CDCI6214: Set up issue only for factory default device

Part Number: CDCI6214

Hi team,

When customer tried to configure CDCI6214 by TICS-PRO, an issue occurred only new devices. “New device” means a factory default device.

The procedure to setup register and EEPROM is as follows.

Connect PC and device and launch TICS-pro.

  1. Block diagram tab -> Push DUT Power -> DUT Power on
  2. Wizard tab -> Set unique frequency 1-4 -> Push Calculate
  3. EEPROM tab -> Push Register to EEPROM (Page 1)
  4. Block diagram tab -> Check the output frequencies set correctly -> Push Read all registers

As a result, the register in the block diagram changed to unknown setup. This is the issue.

The block diagram should not change from the setup checked in step 5.

I transferred the EEPROM setup to the file and compared it with datasheet default setup. It looks like the EEPROM setup was still default.

So, customer could not write register and EEPROM by the above steps.

This issue happens only first write to the new device. After this step, customer repeated the step 1-5, the device was correctly configured.

Are there any wrong steps in above procedure? Why does this issue happen with only new device?

Could you try to configure the new device by using these steps to confirm if you can also reproduce this issue?

Regards,

Saito

  • Takahiro-san,

I am not familiar with this device, but have assigned this to someone who hopefully can help.

    Dean
  • Hi Saito,

I think a step may be missing in the procedure. There are only 4 steps, not 5.
Between steps 2 and 3, the GUI instructs the user to switch to the Block Diagram View.

What are the settings on EEPROMSEL and REFSEL pins? I typically program EEPROM with the device in fallback mode (EEPROMSEL and REFSEL are Hi-Z). If you want to power up into EEPROM page 1, you need to pull EEPROMSEL high and pull REFSEL high or low.

I was unable to replicate this issue on my bench. When I program the EEPROM, the other device registers are not affected. When I read registers after programming, they are not changed.

    Kind regards,
    Lane
  • Hi Lane,

Thanks. I will ask customer to insert the step between step 2 and 3.

The setting is as follows. So, this setting sholdn't be wrong for programming page 1.

    EEPROMSEL : HIGH

    REFSEL : LOW

Did you try to replicate this issue with a factory default device?

    Regards,

    Saito

  • Hi Saito,

Pull EEPROMSEL and REFSEL to Mid (or leave tri-stated) during EEPROM programming. After programming, set EEPROMSEL high and REFSEL low and power cycle.

I was unable to replicate the issue on my bench with a fresh factory device

    Kind regards,
    Lane
