LMK00306: Can this clock buffer be used for PCIe Gen 4?

Hello,

I have a customer looking for a 6 output clock buffer supporting PCIe gen 4. Although this datasheet doesn't say it does support it, I was looking through the jitter requirement since the difference between gen 3 and gen 4 is related to jitter, and it looked like it met spec.

Could you please confirm if this device would work for PCIe Gen 4? and if not, why? Is there a solution available today that is a 6 output clock buffer for PCIe Gen 4?

Dear Louie,

although the LMK00306 is not claiming compliance with PCIe gen4, it will meet the specifcation.

Thank you for answering my question so quickly.
I noticed that there is also a part, the LMK00338, which although is the 8 channel output device, would also work?
What are the big differences between the LMK00338 and the LMK00306? I understand the LM00338 is a newer device. Are they from the same family?

Yes, they are from the same family. LMK00338 only supports HCSL output levels and has 8 outputs, while LMK00306 supports LVPECL, LVDS, HCSL output levels and has 6 outputs.
