ADC32RF82EVM: Device Communication Error: FT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND

Part Number: ADC32RF82EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC32RF82, ADC32RF42, ADC32RF44, ADC32RF45

Hi,

We currently try to use the ADC32RF82EVM board in combination with the TSW14J56 board. The communication to TSW via HSDC Pro is working.

But we cannot setup the communication to the ADC board. We followed the instructions from the user manual and also the "FTDI Driver Installation Procedure.pdf". We also tried from two different PCs.

There is always this error:

Device communication error: "FT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND"

Software Version of the GUI (ADC32RFxx EVM GUI)  is: 4.1

I choose this device in the selection box: ADC32RFxx

The voltages on the testpoints of the board are matching the schematics.

Thanks a lot in advance for your support!

Tobias

  • Hi Tobias,

In the device manager widow of your PC, does the list under the USB change when you connect or disconnect the ADC EVM from the PC?

Also, do you get the error "FT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND" when you try to connect the ADC EVM GUI?

    Regards,

    satish.

  • Hi Satish,

Thank you for your fast reply!

Yes, the device manager is listing a 'USB Serial Converter' with FTDI driver and a new 'USB Serial Port' when connecting the ADC32RF82EVM board.

    Screenshot without EVM connected:

    Screenshot with EVM connected:

When I open the EVM GUI, I always get this error:

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

    Best regards,

    Tobias

  • Hi Tobias,

In the device selection menu in the ADC EVM GUI, can you select ADC32RF82 and try to reconnect?

    Regards,

    satish.

  • Hello Satish,

In the 'Select the device' menu I only have the choice between:

    - ADC32RF42

    - ADC32RF44

    - ADC32RF45

    - ADC32RFxx

The version of the EVM GUI is 4.1 (Build date 5/3/17). Is there another version which I can use and where can I find it?

    Thanks again, best regards,

    Tobias

  • Hi Tobias,

You're right; those are the only devices listed and you also have the latest GUI. Sorry for the confusion.

I was able to connect the GUI using the ADC32RFxx name. I want to check how your device is named in the FTDI enumeration. Can you down load the program called FT_Prog from the web (www.ftdichip.com/.../Utilities.htm and run it. You can see the device enumeration by clicking on the spy glass in the FT_Prog. Please exit the ADC EVM GUI. It should show something as shown below:

Let me know how it's for your EVM.

    Regards,

    satish.

  • Hello Satish,

When I run the FT_Prog, I see another 'Product Desc' and another 'Loc ID':

Maybe the current version of the GUI does not support this ID/Product Desc.? Is it possible to re-program the product description or do you need to publish a new GUI version?

Thank you for your ongoing support, best regards,

    Tobias

  • Hi Tobias,

Can you replace the "82" in the prodcut desc by "xx" and program the FTDI chip. you've to click the lightning bolt icon (next to spy glass) to program the device.

I think the problem here is that the FTDI chip was (incorrectly) programmed as ADC32RF82 instead of ADC32RFxx and so the GUI doesn't recognize the chip. Please give it a try. Once you (successfully) program the FTDI, you can exit the FT_Prog, disconnect the USB, power cycle the device and reconnect the USB. After this the ADC EVM GUI should be able to connect to the EVM.

    regards,

    satish.

  • Dear Satish,

This resolves the problem. Hopefully this post is useful for others, too.

Thanks a lot for your support!

    Best regards,

    Tobias
