ADS7142: How to produce SCL continuously by using the CC3220 chip for successive sampling

Part Number: ADS7142
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3220SF, , CC3200

I use CC3220SF chip and ADS7142 chip , and  connecting 3220's I2C and ADS7142' I2C together. I need to use the continuous sample mode of ADC, but the datasheet of ADS7142 says that it need the  MCU to provide continuous SCL to ADS7142 chip; but how can CC3220 chip generate continuous SCL signal? It seems that this function has not been provided, and I need the ADS7142 to work in successive mode, Could you give me some help ? Thank you very much!

  • Hello,
When you say you want to run the ADC in continuous mode, I am assuming you mean Manual Mode. This mode allows you to directly request sample data from the device and control when the input is sampled. In this mode the device needs a continuous clock signal to operate.
If you want the device to continuously sample data and output it, then yes you need a continuous clock signal.
In autonomous mode, the device samples that data, without the need of a clock signal, BUT the output data is not available.
Not until one of the four (pre alert, post alert, start burst, stop burst) set points has been met (depending on which one the user programs the device to). This helpful when you are monitoring a signal and are concerned only when that signal crosses a threshold. But once this data is requested from the ADC, a clock signal is needed.
It sounds as if you are having issues with using the CC3200 and its capabilities.
I will flag this post to the appropriate team and have them respond about to the CC3220

    Regards

  • Hi Cynthia,
Thank you very much! The problem is that I don't know how to produce successive SCL clock by using CC3220 chip ,so I need some help to do this, thank you!
  • Xiaoqiao,
Lets keep this on one thread.
