ADS8887: Is there any concern to use ADS8887 to replace ADS8866

Part Number: ADS8887
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8866,

Hi team,

My customer is considering to change platform by using ADS8887 18bits to replace ADS8866 16bits?

Are they pin-pin compatible? Is there any concern on design?

Thanks a lot for suggestion!

BR,

Sean Liao

  • Hi Sean,

The ADS8887 is a good upgrade to the ADS8866 and they are pin-to-pin compatible.  However, because the ADS8887 is a true differential input product, the customer will need to implement a driver solution for the IN- input of the device ADS8887 where they currently have the IN- input of the ADS8866 connected to GND.  Connecting the IN- input of the ADS8887 will result in loss of 1/2 of the codes because the differential input will only be positive.

Depending on the sampling rate the ADS8887 requires a higher performance reference driver solution compared with the ADS8866 which may also require updates.  Please review the datasheet application sections and EVMs for both of these products for example input and reference driver configurations.

  • Hi Collins,

Could you also please suggest 18bit DAC? Thanks a lot!

  • Hello Sean,

Can you please post a new question?  There is another team that supports DAC devices.
