ADS8678: Selection of Input range and PGA setting for ADS8678

Part Number: ADS8678

Hi,

I am facing some confusion while going through the specification of TI ADC (MPN ADS8678).

1. There are 8 ADC channel ( with Associated PGA), what is the AUX_IN terminal in the IC. Is it the ADC without PGA?

2. For each Analog input we can select the input range. What is the PGA gain for each input range selected.

3. Can we change the PGA gain for the input range selected?

Please provide clarification on the raised query?

Regards

Manish

  • Hello Manish,

Welcome to E2E Data Converters forum.

    1. Your understanding is correct, AUX channel on the ADS8678 does not have an Analog Front End(AFE) including PGA, all AIN_x channels and AUX input channel share the same 14-bit ADC core through internal multiplexer.

2 & 3. The PGA gain ca not be programmed or selected directly by the user, however, when you configure /select the input range on a specific channel, the PGA gain on that channel will be changed automatically. The input range can be changed in the Range Select Registers shown below, please check section 8.5.2.3.3 for more details, the register address (05h-0Ch) represents the corresponding channel.

    Thanks&Regards,

    Dale
