Hi,

The recommendations for Balun's for DAC (DAC38RF82) was not mentioned in datasheet.

In the DAC EVM recommended part no: TCM3-452X-1+. This Balun having high phase imbalance.

Can we use TCM2-33WX+ (this balun was recommended in ADC12DJ3200).

Can you suggest other baluns for DAC38RF82.

This the TCM3-452X-1 Balun performance.

You could probably use this transformer but not on the TI EVM as the pinout does not match the current design. The transformer selected is usually based off of system parameters with bandwidth usually high on the requirement list. Sine the TI EVM was designed to demonstrate over a large bandwidth, the current part was chosen. I do not know your system requirements so I cannot make a suggestion for you. Just make sure the impedance is matched on both ends of the transformer (100 differential on DAC side) you select.

Hi Jim,

Thanks you for inputs. Since in the ADC datasheet (ADC12DJ3200) there were recommendation on the balun's.

We thought any recommendations for DAC)DAC38RF82) from TI is available.

Hello Jim,

can we use an external balun with TI EVM? I would like to use TCM2-33WX+ as it has low phase and amplitude imbalance.

On TSW40RF82EVM, will the following mods work?

1. populate L7, L8, R382 and R380.

2. remove R381 and R386.

3. Connect J40 TCM2-33WX+ secondary pin 3.

4. Connect J39 to TCM2-33WX+ secondary dot pin 4.

5. Output on primary?

Please let me know.

This should work. You also need to install R382 and R380.
