ADS5296A: 14bit serialisation mode

Part Number: ADS5296A

Hi

I have this device implemented into a system and it is working well in 12bit mode.

I have also got the device to work in 14bit serialisation mode but the data sheet suggests that 14bit mode should be used in conjunction with decimation filters enabled.  (ref: SBAS631 –OCTOBER 2013, table 67, pg 93, 'Brief Description')

I would like to know if there are any performance trade offs with using the device in 14bit serialisation mode without decimation filters enabled?

The 14bit data output seems ok so far without any decimation filters enabled.

Thanks

NR

  • Hi,

Yes, this is an eight 12bit ADC devices inside the ADS5296A device.

please look at the page 15 and page 16 internally.

So when you choose 14bit serialization mode,

then you will get 2 more bits (bit0 and bit1) '0's

from the output, that is why datasheet suggest that

decimation filter and/or averaging options would be chosen (enabled) by you.

Of course if you don't want to use decimation filter in 14bit serialization mode,

    that should be OK.

You can try it with or without that.

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Chen
