Hello Team,

I would like to ask you about power supply line capacitor.

Can I use the aluminum electrolytic capacitor in the digital and analog power supply lines to the PCM1802.

My customer want to avoid use the tantalum capacitor because the failure mode of tantalum cap is short.

Also could you tell me the reason the tantalum capacitor is recommend in PCM1802 datasheet.

Hi, Matsunami-san,

Tantalum capacitors provide more capacitance in a smaller package size back when this device was developed, so they were recommended in the data sheet.

Aluminum electrolytics should be fine. I would recommend a 0.1 uF ceramic in parallel with them to lower the equivalent ESR.
