Evaluation of PCM4201 and PCM1748 with DIX4192EVM-PDK

Hi everyone!

We are currently planning to evaluate our design of an audio related project. We are using ADC (PCM4201) and DAC (PCM1748) on our board and we would like to test them using some evaluation module. We have found DIX4192EVM-PDK as appropriate one.

PCM4201 supports: 24-bit linear PCM output data; Left-Justified/DSP-Compatible data formats. PCM1748 supports: 16, 18, 20 and 24-bit data; Standard, I2S, and Left-Justified data formats. DIX4192 supports Left-Justified, Right-Justified, and Philips I2S data formats.

Could you please confirm compatibility between this EV board and chosen DAC and ADC? In other words, could we evaluate PCM4201 and PCM1748 with DIX4192EVM-PDK?

Hi Goran,

The PCM4201 and the PCM1748 use I2S for their digital interface, so you should be able to hook these up directly with I2S and communicate between them. I think the DIX4192 would be unnecessary, could you tell me more about your test plans?

Thank you for your fast reply.

Our test plan is to connect DIX4192EVM-PDK to PCM4201 using I2S (Audio Serial Port A) and to PCM1748 using I2S (Audio Serial Port B). In the same time, we will use AES3 I/O to connect DIX4192EVM-PDK to PrismSound dScope Series III that will be attached to a PC. Then we will be able to test audio performance of our design.

So, our only "worries" are about I2S data exchange (data formats) between DIX4192EVM-PDK and PCM4201, and DIX4192EVM-PDK and PCM1748. We will not probably have any issues regarding this, but we would like to be sure. Did you have any experiences with some similar setup?

Hi Goran,

I have not had experience with this type of setup but these parts should be able to communicate over I2S without any problems.
