TLV320AIC3100 Speaker support to headphone line

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3100

Dear TI,

We are planning to use TLV320AIC3100 in one of our projects. As we need only one headphone line(HPL) to get Mono output,  HPR will be left unconnected. We are planning to  connect this headphone line(HPL) to a 16ohm or 32ohm ear speaker. So the speaker positive line will be connected to HPL  and speaker negative line will be connected to HPVSS to provide the return ground path. Is it fine ? or do we need to take care of anything else ?

Regards,
Sateesh

  • You'll also have to add a DC blocking capacitor between HPL and the headphone speaker because HPL is not ground centered. This will form a first order high pass filter (blocking cap and headphone real impedance) so you'll have to use a fairly large capacitor, depending on how much bass content you want to reproduce with the headphones. Typical values are 47uF or 100uF for 32 Ohm or 16 Ohm speakers.
