AIC34 capless configuration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC34

Hi,

The  capless pseudo differential configuration for the TLV320AIC34 is not completely clear to me.

Today we apply the following configuration:

Register 14: D7 = 0 capless mode, D6 = 0 no fully differential output

Register 37: D5-D4 = 01: HPLCOM_x configured as constant VCM output

Register 38: D5-D3 = 100: HPRCOM_x configured as external feedback with HPLCOM_x as constant VCM output

Please note that HPLCOM and HPROM are shortcut.

Register 51: unmute, select high impedance for power down and power ON driver for HPLOUT

Register 58: unmute, select high impedance for power down and power ON driver for HPLCOM

Register 65: unmute, select high impedance for power down and power ON driver for HPROUT

Register 72: unmute, select high impedance for power down and power ON driver for HPRCOM

I noticed that it doesn’t make a difference if I keep the HPLCOM and HPRCOM drivers not powered and muted.

Why doesn’t it make a difference and which setting do you recommend?

Thanks

Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

When the HPLCOM and HPRCOM outputs are configured as constant VCM output or differential of another output, they will not be affected if you try to power up or un-mute them. This happens because the output control of HPLCOM and HPRCOM is determined by another source (VCM or HPLOUT for example). You may try powering on and powering off HPLOUT. HPLCOM and HPRCOM will be affected by that.

The only way to power up and un-mute the HPLCOM and HPRCOM outputs is changing its configuration as "Independent Single-Ended Output".

I hope this helps you. If you still have questions, please let me know.

    Best regards,
