Functional difference b/w AIC3254 and AIC3253?

Hey
Based on the features, functioning and programming, how different is AIC3254 with AIC3253?
Apart from the pin count, which is obvious, the AIC3254 for its EVM lists 32kB of EEPROM mem. For AIC3253, can it be assumed same?

What about the programming part, etc?

    Please refer to below:

    1. AIC3253 does not have a DVDD LDO, therefore no LDO_SELECT pin is available (refer to block diagram in the datasheet). Single 3.3V supply could not be used since 1.8V is required for DVDD.
    2. Similar to AIC3254, the AIC3253 also has an AVDD LDO.
    3. AIC3253 does not have line outputs. Only headphone outputs are available.
    4. Both parts are not pin-to-pin compatible. AIC3254 is available in QFN32 (RHB). AIC3253 is available in VQFN24 (RGE) and DSBGA25/WCSP (YZK). The WCSP option has an additional GPIO pin.
    5. In AIC3253, only one pair of inputs is available for single-ended analog bypass to HPL/HPR. There is no MicPGA or analog front-end.
    6. A new feature, offset calibration, was added in AIC3253 to reduce pop in HP differential mode. This is available on Page 1 / Register 125.

  • The use case for this codec is in a portable wireless speaker. I was considering using AIC3253, since its basic and cost-wise, scalable.
    System requirements are basic, analog output to amplifier for speaker driver and analog input can be from either audio jack or bluetooth, which also supports mic.
    So AIC3253 can be used right or a buffer is required between its headphone output and amplifier input?
    Or I am better off using AIC3254?
  • Hi Arjun,

    Headphone output should be able to drive the amplifier input at line levels. Generally headphone outputs supports higher currents as smaller loads are used, and also can be used to drive higher loads such as the case of line impedances.
