Recommended USB to I2S interface for PCM1794

Hi,

Some time ago I saw a post of a user struggling with using CP2114 with PCM1794A. He mentioned he used PCM2707 to drive it with the success, however it doesn't seem to be a matching component as:

- it is also a DAC (so why using DAC to drive other DAC?)

- it only supports clocks up to 48kHz which is the main no-go for me.

So, does TI recommend any other chip working with clocks up to 192kHz and compatible with PCM1794A?

    This depends on what your application, but if you want just USB to I2S up to 192 kHz, I don't know of really any cost effective solution. My only recommendations would be processor or microcontrollers which will require code. Examples are AM335X parts, C55XX parts, or XMOS.

    The only case I could see one of our PCM2XXX parts working would be to use one with SPDIF output, then use one of our parts taht takes SPDIF in and outputs I2S like the DIX4192.

    For sample frequencies up to 48kHz you can use PCM2706 or PCM2707 because they have I2S output. Analog part will be unconnected and also volume will not work.

    Now TI and many others doesn't have simple USB to I2S solution with support up to 192kHz. There are available complete modules Amanero based on ATSAM3U1CA and WaveIO based on XMOS processor.

    There exists open source software solution based on project AudioWidget which is based on project SDR-Widget. I created also module based on this solution and complete documentation is available on my Home Page.

    There is also new chip from XMOS which has embedded firmware for USB to I2S and S/PDIF solution. His name is XHRA-2HPA and is available from DigiKey. It support sample frequencies up to 384kHz, USB Audio Class 2.0 and HID GPI pins for some buttons. You don't need any programming knowledge, because firmware was made by chip manufacturer.
