PCM1860 simultenous outputs

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1860, PCM1862

Hi,

Customer of mine is developing Hi-Fi compo for consumer. They have 2 inputs to ADC

#1 : Analog In (single ended)

#2: Mic Input (single ended)

 Below are my questions:

  1. Is PCM1860 able to output these two signals simultaneously?
  2. If not, any ADC with 2.1Vrms, 103dB capable of doing so?
  3. For Microphone inputs to 2.1 VRMS line, is there any attenuator in this IC (i.e is block below attenuator)?

Thanks

  • Hi Eng,

    1. Yes the PCM1860 can input these both at the same time, as there are two independent ADCs.
    2. See above.
    3. Since the PCM1860 is hardware controlled there are limited options for gain settings. These are shown in the PCM1860 Pin Functions table in the data sheet. There are integrated PGAs in the device, but require software control. If the customer would like more options for gain or attenuation per channel, then they can move to a software controlled version like the PCM1862.

  • Hi Justin,

Thaks for your explanation. I do understand

regarding the Question 1, I understand PCM1860 is capable of accepting two input. What i'm asking is the output. As I can see from block diagram, there is only single DOUT.

    Please advise

    Thanks

  • Hi Eng,

The output for the 2 channel devices will be on DOUT (Left and Right). You will have move to a 4 channel device to be able to enable DOUT2 on one of the GPIO.
