TLV320AIC3104-Q1: If TLV320AIC3104-Q1 can be used to sampling DC signal

Part Number: TLV320AIC3104-Q1

Hi All,

We have a requirement for 4 channel ADC and 1 channel DAC.  ADC is used to sense voltage, current, temperature. Q100 is required.

TLV320AIC3104-Q1 is codec, which can be used to sense four channel signal and one channel output. But this is for audio application, and capacitor is used for AC coupling. So i am checking if this part can be DC coupled to sense the low frequency signal like temperature, voltage, and how about the sensing accuracy. Thanks.

Best Regards

Charles

  • Hi, Charles,

The TLV320AIC3104-Q1 can be DC coupled. It would be necessary to remove any AC-coupling capacitor at the analog inputs and outputs.

It is a stereo audio codec. So, it contains two ADCs and two DACs. If more channels are required, two TLV320AIC3104-Q1 would be needed.

However, we recommend to use it for audio applications instead of DC sensing. The internal ADC/DAC blocks have error gains that could affect the DC sampling precision.

  • Hi  Luis,

    Thanks for reply.

For the channel, i think maybe it is possible to use the time division method, i noticed there are six input pins, but four input channel which can be enabled and disabled separately.

Do you have any test data which shows the accuracy for DC signal sampling? I don't see much introduction about the error gains.

    Best Regards.

  • Hi, Charles,

The time division method is used when multiple codecs are connected and share the I2S lines. In that way the data lines can send multiple data at same time (two channels per codec). Even if the codec has multiple inputs that can be configured as single-ended and differential, only two channels data can be sent (left and right ADCs).

Regarding the DC signal sampling, we don't have enough data about this since the codec is used for audio applications. All the data is specified for ranges from 20Hz to 20KHz. However, all the gain error data of the datasheet applies for DC signals.
