PCM4204: How to measure full-scale PDM(DSD) signal ?

Part Number: PCM4204

We measure the signal level of PDM using PCM4204.

Using slave mode of PCM4204, we can measure properly when the input signal to the PCM4204 DSD input terminal is up to -6dBFS PDM.

However, when we put -3dBFS or 0dBFS which is greater than -6dBFS, it overload.

Please confirm that the maximum value of PCM4204 DSD input is -6dBFS.

Also, please let us know if there is a method of testing 0dBFS in PCM4204.

  • Hello, JongKwang,

Welcome to E2E, Thanks for your interest in our products!.

The DSD input of the PCM4204 is not limited to -6dBFS, so you should be able to input 0dbFs DSD data. Please refer to the notes below Electrical Characteristics tables in the datasheet for further reference about the test process we used to capture the specs of the device.

  • Hello!

    I have some question.

Audio Precision PDM Module is used for DSD(PDM) signal generation.

The PCM4204 was set DSD input to PCM output mode.

If i put -6dBFS to PCM4204 DSD Input, how about PCM peak bit value of the PCM4204 ?

If i put 0dBFS to PCM4204 DSD Input, how about PCM  peak bit value of the PCM4204 ?

    i did experiments as below.

i put -6dBFS to PCM4204 DSD Input. and when i read the PCM data which has changed in PCM4204, the peak data is 0x7FFFFF.

Please confirm the above information and send us your feedback.
