PCM2902C: Does this codec come in a 96 kHz sample rate version?

Part Number: PCM2902C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2900C,

Can someone recommend a USB codec similar to the PCM2900C with 96 kHz sampling.

Thanks..

Steven

  • Hi, Steven,

All of the USB audio codecs we have are compliant with USB audio class 1, which means the maximum supported sampling rate is 48KHz. Unfortunately we don't have an alternate device which can support 96KHz sampling rate.

  • Diego,

    Thanks for reply.

I did a few searches on USB Audio Class 1, and found it should support 24 bit at 96 kHz.

Can I sample at a higher rate if I drop the bit rate to 16?

I have my PCM2902C project working with Audacity and for some reason it seems to work fine with 96 kHz 16 bit, indicated by the smoother waveform and closely spaced samples.

  • Hi,Steven,

Thanks for the additional feedback. From the PCM2902C point of view, the maximum supported sampling rate for both payback and recording is 48KHz. It is possible that the software you use is not really configuring the codec to operate at higher sampling rates. I have verified using the S.PDIF output of the codec that the sampling rate is kept constant to 48KHz even if it is changed on a software as audacity.

  • Strange how the software finds those extra sample points and somehow interlaces the points.

Anyway, it is what it is..

    Thanks..
