TIDA-00171 Reference Design - AMC1304

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1304M25, AMC1304M05, TMS320F28377D

Hello there,

We are checking the above isolated current shunt and voltage measurement reference design based on AMC1304M05 and AMC1304M25 and we have the following doubts:

1. The design employs an external PLL to generate the clock for the modulators. Is it possible to use the MCU PWM output to perform such clock?

2. The schematic shows that the device is a AMC1304M05/25 using signals CLKIN and CLKIN_N / DOUT and DOUT_N. Nevertheless, the IC datasheet shows these M versions (CMOS) does not have CLKIN_N and DOUT_N pins, rather the L versions (LVDS). So, what is the correct version of the IC employed?

3. What is the main difference between these devices and the AMC1305 family?

Thank you in advance.

Bests,

Douglas

  • Hello Douglas,

    1) The PWM module of the TMS320F28377D can indeed be used to generate a clock for the AMC1304 devices. My recommendation would be to post further questions about the PWM module on the C2000 forum though.

    2) Could you please specify which schematic shows the use of CLCKIN_N and DOUT_N? The one below shows two resistors as DNP (do not populate) for these lines.

    3) The main difference between the AMC1304 family and the AMC1305 family is that the AMC1304 family has an integrated LDO for the AVDD side of the isolation barrier. You can find more information on the corresponding product datasheets.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Jose

  • Thank you Jose!

I am sorry for my misunderstand. In fact I was seeing the pin names between the AMC1304L and AMC1304M on th datasheet.
The idea about the PWM was to know if it was possible to avoid an external PLL.

BTW, do you have any hint when the devices will change the status PREVIEW to ACTIVE?

Thank you fro your prompt reply.

    Bests,
    Douglas
  • Hello Douglas,

    You're welcome.

Unfortunately I do not know when the devices will become active but it should happen later in the year.

    Best regards,

    Jose
