TSW1400 USB Serialize

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC5681

Hello,

I have a problem about my board "TSW1400".

I have installed the Pattern Generator "TSW1400" with "DAC 5681". However, I changed my computer to windows 7 system. I find that "DAC 5681" can not communicate with my computer. I searched the problem and find the answer with the following site:

http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/102652.aspx
In the forum, they give the solution with the following site:

http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/85288.aspx?PageIndex=2

In this question, they told a solution using  "usb_ser.zip". Therefore, I tried to use "usb_ser.zip" to make my DAC board communicate with the computer. However, I make a mistake that when I serialize the USB, both the "TSW1400" and "DAC 5681" are connected to my computer. So after serialize the USB, I find that my "TSW1400" can not communicate with the computer. When the computer detect the connection of "TSW1400", the name of new device "TSW1400" become that of "DAC 5682". Now I can not use "TSW1400" neither...

Could you please tell me that if you have the solution to serialize the USB of "TSW1400"? Like in the "usb_ser.zip" in the http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/85288.aspx?PageIndex=2

Thank you very much for your help.

  • Hi Linning,

The DAC usb_ser program will reprogram all FTDI chips currently connected to the computer. That is why your TSW1400 was overwritten. Most likely there was not a problem with the DAC board. My guess is that you simply need to right click on the DAC GUI (in the start menu) and select "Run as Administrator". You should then be able to communicate with the board. You will have issues if you try to run it normally.

I'll send over instructions to reprogram your TSW1400 later today.

  • Thank you very much for your fast response. I have tried to run as administrator, but the DAC does not works. And I borrowed a XP computer. The DAC works correctly. Maybe it is the problem of my setups? I will reinstall the drivers. Thank you.

    Best regards,

    Linning

  • Hi Linning,

Please reinstall the drivers and let me know if it works. Another thing to check is to see how the board shows up in the device manager. If there's a warning sign next to the board then you may need to install the drivers for the board manually. You would do this by right clicking on the device in device manager and selecting update driver software. Instead of letting the computer search for the drivers you should be able to choose options that allow you to select the manufacturer and driver for the device.

Instructions to reprogram the TSW1400 are attached below.

  • Hi Matt,

Thank you very much for your help.

Since it is night now in my country, I will try to solve the problem in tomorrow. I will feedback you in tomorrow.

    Thank you.

  • Hi, Matt

I have tried to reprogram "TSW1400", but it does not works.

When the "TSW1400" is connected to my computer, the computer can detect new device but named as "DAC5682".

The computer can not install the driver for "TSW1400". The problem is shown as follows:

Then, when I run "FT_Prog", the program can not detect the connected device with following message:

I don't know how to do with it.

Thank you very much for your following helps.

In addition, I also try to reinstall the driver of  "DAC5681" in my Win7 system computer. However, "DAC5681" can not communicate with the computer neither.

    Best regards,

    Linning

  • Hi Linning,

The problem is that windows does not know to use the default FTDI drivers for the DAC5682 because of how the EVM is programmed. We need to force windows to use the FTDI drivers. You'll then be able to reprogram the TSW1400 and be able to use the DAC GUI.

    To get the TSW1400 working:

    1. Follow the guide attached below to manually install the FTDI drivers
    2. Use FT_Prog to reprogram the TSW1400 using previously provided directions

    To get the DAC5682 working:

    1. Follow the guide attached below to manually install the FTDI drivers
    2. Run DAC5682 GUI as administrator

  • Hi Matt,

    Thank you for this solution.

Now I can install the driver for both "TSW1400" and "DAC5681" for Win7 system now. The "DAC5681" can communicate with computer in Win7 system now. However, since the EEPROM of the "TSW1400" has been wrote wrong message, it can not be correctly read by the program "FT_Prog" for writing new message. "FT_Prog" can find the device but read nothing from the chip... It seems that "FT_Prog"can write the EEPROM only after they have correctly read the informations from the chip. Therefore I can not use "TSW1400" in both XP and Win7 systems. So I do not know if I can have other solutions to fix the problem of "TSW1400"? Thank you.

Anyway, your solution to solve the Win7 driver for "DAC5681" works well. Thank you very much.

  • Hi Linning,

This method should allow FT_Prog to access the TSW1400 chip. The TSW1400 is a quad USB device, so you may need to repeat the manual driver installation directions 4 times (for all 4 chips).

Would you mind sending me a screenshot of Device Manager and FT_Prog?

    Hi Matt,

I have made the screenshot of the FT_Prog and Device manager in the pptx. Thank you for your helps.

I have installed four drivers for "TSW1400". However, in "FT_Prog", it can find the device but can not read the information of the EEPROM.

  • Hi Linning,

This screenshot is from after pressing the magnifying glass? Are you able to see the device in the "Device Tree" after searching for it? If so, try erasing the device by clicking on the lightning bolt and choosing "Erase device". I have a feeling the device was reprogrammed to look like a different device.

  • Hi Matt,

I have try to do as you mentioned, by it does not works.

In the attached ppt, I have put all of the screenshots concerning my operations. I have the question that may I erase the device without scanning the device. The FT_Prog programme seems to be set to initially scan and read correct values from the EEPROM. Then it can erase the EEPROM. I don't know if I can have other solution to erase the EEPROM?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hi Matt,

I have found a solution to program the EEPROM of the chip "F4232H" on the board TSW1400. I have made the solution in the following ppt:

    2604.FTDI Programming.ppt

Thank you very much for all of your heips.

  • Hi Linning,

Great, so it sounds like everything is working now. Glad you were able to find a solution to get the TSW1400 back in order.
