ADC12D1800RFRB chip on the evaluation board cannot be powered up

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WAVEVISION5

Hi,

I purchased ADC12D1800RFRB/NOPB evaluation board a few months ago. I've tried to use the board these days, but it hasn't work well.

After typical setup procedures and connection between PC and the board, I launched WaveVision5 (HS12) .

WV5 found the board. It means WV5 can communicate with FPGA on the board, I guess.

But WV5 can't communicate with the ADC (e.g. register), since the ADC seemed not to be powered up.

Only 'FPGA Operational' and 'ECM Enabled' of the status LEDs lit, but 'ADC_POWER' remained off.

Do you have any solution?

  • HI,

When you plug the board and launch the WaveVision  5 software do you should see the following image?

Can you please confirm that the correct FPGA image is being loaded? ( The board you have and image being uploaded should be the same.)

Do you see any GUI error messages on the screen?

Can you please send a good quality picture showing the jumpers that are installed, or list all jumper that are installed?

What revision of board do you have (Rev A or REV B)?

    Regards,

    Neeraj Gill

  • FPGA images must be loaded correctly. No GUI error messages.

I have Rev. B of the board. Only the ADC chip didn't work.

  • Hi,

Looking at the picture you sent me, jumpers look fine. But I noticed that resistor R180 is not installed. Was it removed intentionally?

Resistor R180 routes internal or external clock to the ADC based on the position it is installed. If R180 is installed at position B internal clk is routed to the ADC and if it is installed at position A external clock is routed. Please install R180 according to you desired clock source, hopefully this should solve your issue. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Neeraj

  • Thank you for your reply.

I intentionally removed the resister. To test the ADC operation, I tried both modes of the clock sources. It didn't work either.

  • HI,

I want you to do some probing on power section of the board.
Please remove the jumper J22 and measure the voltage on the input side, make sure the voltage around 1.9 V. Install the jumper J22 back on and measure the voltage on L14 (next to Jumper J22) and make sure it is around 1.9 V, this will tell us the ADC is getting the appropriate voltage.
Was the board working before or it hasn’t been working from the very beginning?

    Regards,
    Neeraj Gill
  • Hi,

Actually, that's exactly what I did. The voltage on L14 with J22 was approximately 0.5V, whereas it was correctly 1.9V without J22.

In addition,  I confirmed the ADC_POWER LED came up,

when I intentionally remove some jumpers on J23 to reduce the power consumption for the other part.

The board has never worked normally since I've opened the box.

  • HI,

I think at this point I would be best to do a warranty return on the board.

if the board was purchased through TI ESTORE then please follow return instruction provided in the link below.
    www.ti.com/.../help.page
if the board was purchased through distributor then you will have to go through them to return it.

  • Hi,

Thank you for your suggestion. I bought the board through some local distributors in Japan.

After I noticed the issue, I requested them to replace or refund it a few weeks ago.

They answered that they couldn't do that,

because the agreement between TI and them doesn't warrant the product over a month after the purchase date.

They told me to speak with TI engineer directly through E2E and to take an advisement over the initial failure.

    That's why I'm here.

  • Hello

We are looking into a way to get a replacement board to you. I hope to have more information on what we can do and reply on Monday (Tuesday morning in Japan).

I would like to contact you directly to get more information. Can you share your email address so I can do that?

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Hello

I would like to work with your distributor to have them accept the return.

Please provide your email address so I can work with you directly to get all of the needed details.

    Best regards,

    Jim B
