Help with DAC 5689 EVM board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC5689

Hi

First of all sorry for my Engish , i'm not the native speaker, but here is my problem:

I've bought DAC 5689 EVM board for broadband signal generation (for example LFM with band width about 40 -60 Mhz)

I've plugged 1.8 & 3.3 V (according datasheet's requirments, with less than 1A limit set per line), additionally 1-vrms, 0-v offset sine-wave signal provided as VCXO (as also required according datasheet). USB cable is connected too and "example" configuration (folder \Texas Instruments\DAC5689\Configuration Files\example.txt) loaded onto board via USB connection with DAC 5689 EVM Control tool.

Since i don't have special pattern generator to generate input, i''ve been using single square signal on top input bus leg (DA15)

My measurment results:

CLK2 & CKL2C configured in a proper way (clock for clock distributor CDCM is correct)

TXENABLE is high level

RESETB is high level

1.8V & 3.3V are present (no 5V since i don't need RF out)

Jumper positions

jP1 - 2-3 (set to internal ref)

j1 (unpopulated)

jP2 2-3 (using external VCXO)

jP3 2-3 (using externla VCXOB)

JP4 2-3 (CLKOUT)

JP5 2-3 (LOCK)

D2 & D3 light's ok (REF level & VCXO level), D1 Lock never light for me so as D4 Lock for DAC

Board passed through several reset-set cycles (starting with SW1 reset, programming with DAC5689 control tool, measurments) with always the same result at the end.(no visible output on r46, r56, r58, r69 even noise level is absent).

Could you please suggest some routines to start with to check if board function in correct way?

Also if there are some obvious mistakes durring attempt to start the board please let me know, thx.

  • Hi Greg,

I am looking into this I will try to replicate your setup and see if I see the same issue/problem.

  • Hi Greg,

DAC5689 is a current sinking DAC, which means its IOUT pins should be terminated to AVDD. By default EVM is configured to used with the TRF3703 and DAC’s IOUT pins are terminated to 5V as shown in the picture below.

As you mentioned you are not providing 5V to the EVM, because of that you are not getting any output signal. Try connecting 5V to EVM and see if you are able to observe an output.

That been said, as you mentioned you are not planning on using the RF out. I would recommend following the instruction in section 4.7 of the user guide and modifying the board so that you can look at the desired output signal.
