JESD2048B ADC and Optical Link

Hi guys, I have N ADC with interface JESD2048B (8 lanes) an i would connect them to a FPGA Virtex 7 with a optical link. How can i do it?  My idea was that to use one fiber cable for more ADC, but this one has 8 lanes LVDS so i would 8 fiber links.

In others hands i have to group more LVDS lanes of ADCs in 1 fiber link. Is possible?

Thanks

  • Hi s c,

You can send the JESD204B data over optical link. We have been able to demonstrate this in the lab with a multi-lane JESD204B interface. There are parallel optics modules that could be used to account for multiple lanes.

The DC coupled SYNC signal must also be sent between the FPGA and ADC, so account for that as well depending on how far your link is.

  • Ok but if SYNC signal is differential there's no problem, right? I send it over fiber togheter data signals. The distance is 1.5 m maximum.
I found this transceiver of AVAGO: www.avagotech.com/.../afbr-820bxxxz . Do you confirm these kind of transceivers i have to use?
  • The SYNC is a DC like signal (toggles only when needed) and cannot be directly sent over optical fibre. Unless you have a means to encode the DC like level and send that over fibre to indicate a logic 1 or 0.
