WaveVison5 and LM98640

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM98640CVAL, WAVEVISION5

Hello,

I have in hand one WaveVision 5 board and one LM98640CVAL board. I have two question:

- Do I need the AFE evaluation software in addition of the WaveVision software? If yes where I can download it?

- On my board, there is no additional memories on it. Is the version with the four SRAM already exist and tested? If yes, it is possible to update my board myself with the rigth components?

Thanks

  • Hello Matthieu

The GUI (AFEval software) can be found on the LM98640CVAL product page on it.com.   The users manual for the board is also there.

Note that it only runs on Windows XP or earlier and does not work with Windows 7 or 10.

This board will not run with the standard WaveVision software.   If you have already tried to run the board with WaveVision software, you might have some issues when you try to load the AFEval software and run it.   If you do have any issues, just uninstall WaveVision, load the AFEval software.   Once you get the LM98640CVAL running, you can reinstall the WaveVision software if you need it.

The LM98640CVAL will connect to the standard WaveVision5 board.

  • Hello Kirby,

Thanks for your answer. About Windows 7, I use it and just launch the software without issue but maybe some issue will appears, I'll try with Windows XP.

Do you have an answer also for the embedded memory of the Wavevision 5?

With the LM98640CVAL, it seems not possible to acquire more than 30k samples by channel, so the 64k x 16 bits memory on the WaveVision 5 seems sufficient, couls you cinfrm this, please? Is there is  way to acquire more data?

    Thanks

    Matthieu Baque

  • WaveVision5 software will work with Windows 7. I have not been able to launch the AFEval software on Windows 7. If you can launch it and get to the control windows in Windows 7, then it might work for you to drive the board.

This setup with the LM98640CVAL and the WaveVision5 does not have much flexibility as far as the capture depth goes.

You do not need the WaveVision5 board to run the LM98640CVAL board. The kit includes a Total Phase Aardvark for controlling the board with a PC also using the AFEval software. You could then use your own system for data capture. The board does include a number of connection options.
  • Hello,

    Sorry for the delay.

We are using the two boards together and we have to store more than 64K samples but we would like to use the WaveVision5 board, our own system data capture isn't yet available.

Is it possible to know which components we need to add on the board (SRAM, decoupling, Pup...)?

Is it possible to have the code to update the FPGA on the board or at least the actual code to add this function?

    Thanks for your answer

    Regards

  • The Wavevision 5 board documentation (schematic, BOM, etc.) can be found on its product page:

I have sent you a friend request. Please respond to that for information on AFEval source code.
