ADC12D1600, differences between C and RF part

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12D1600, ADC12D1600RF

I thought that the difference between the C and RF parts was the performance of the sample and hold circuit?  Is this correct?

The current data sheets make the 2 parts look a lot alike.

The main differences I see are:

The bandwidth spec is vague for the C part, and more precise for the RF part.

The gain flatness is about the same for the 2 parts up through Fs.  The C part isn't specified past Fs, and the RF part is specified past Fs.

Do the 2 parts have very similar performance up to Fs?  Is there anything I am missing?

  • Hi Dan,

The following E2E post talk about differences between ADC12D1600(NON RF version) vs ADC12D1600RF.

  • Thanks.
From the presentation, the differences are really in the IMD3 and noise floor, and not in the BW. Its hard to compare IMD3 for the 2 parts; the test conditions are different in the data sheets.
  • Hi Dan,

The RF version of the ADC12D1600 supports DESCLKIQ mode, whereas NON-RF version does on support DESCLKIQ.
The DESCLKIQ mode provides best bandwidth when using the interleaved mode. In general, the bandwidth
decreases from Non-DES Mode to DES Mode (specifically, DESI or DESQ) because both channels are
sampling off the same input signal and non-ideal effects introduced by interleaving the two channels lower
the bandwidth. Driving both I- and Q-channels externally (DESIQ Mode and DESCLKIQ Mode) results in
better bandwidth because each channel is being driven, which reduces routing losses. The DESCLKIQ
Mode has better bandwidth than the DESIQ Mode because the routing internal to the ADC12D1600/1000
is simpler, which results in less insertion loss.
