FMC to ADC Bridge usage with Altera FPGA EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS42LB69, ADS42LB69EVM

Hi all,

We are planning to use the ADS42LB69 EVM with Altera DK-DEV-5AGTD7N EVM.
Initially we thought of using HSMC to ADC Bridge but later we found that the HSMC to ADC Bridge doesn't support 16 bit ADCs.

Currently we are exploring the option of using the FMC to ADC adapter between ADC EVM & FPGA EVM.
But it is mentioned in the TI Website that the FMC to ADC adapter is for Xilinx platforms.

Can we use FMC to ADC adater with Altera EVMs also ?
Has anyone tested this setup ?

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks,
Suresha N S

  • Suresh,

We have not tested the FMC to ADC adapter with the Altera FMC boards so we are not certain if the appropriate IO pins are routed from the Altera FPGA to the FMC connector.

If you have access to the schematic of the specific Altera FPGA platform, you will need to ensure that the IO pins on the adapter match up with the IO pins of the adapter.

  • Suresha,

The ADS42LB69 connector has locking tabs that will need to be cut off before you can mate this board with the adapter, which does not have the sockets for the tabs. Another option is to order a connector without the tabs for the ADS42LB69EVM. We have cut these tabs off in the past without any issues. I do not have the schematic for the Altera board, but if there are traces routed on the FMC that line up with the adapter FMC traces, and none of the adapter dedicated ground pins short out anything on the Altera board, I think you can use these three boards together. We have never tried this.

  • Hi Jim,

    Thanks for your quick response.

We have verified the FPGA EVM schematics & found the FMC connections to be fine.
Anyways, we would prefer if you can have a look at it & confirm the same.
Please find the FMC connector pinouts from FPGA EVM in below document.

Also, can you please share snapshots of the connector with tabs if it is available with you.
This will help us to understand & plan for it accordingly.

We look forward to your support.
