DAC38RF82EVM: Board not recognised in the GUI interface

Part Number: DAC38RF82EVM

Hello everyone,

I am having problems getting the DAC38RF82EVM to work. I am following the guidelines in the provided user manual for DAC38RF8x-EVM under Quickstart. I am not able to connect to the EVM board in the GUI through the USB interface.

What could be the possible problems?

Best Regards,

Saad

  • Saad,

Try uninstalling any FTDI drivers you have on the PC and re-installing them.  What version of Windows are you using?

Here are instructions for doing the uninstall and reinstall:

The .exe file installs the FTDI drivers during software installation. If after connecting the USB cable and

Windows lists the board as an "unknown device", this could be caused by corrupted FTDI drivers being

installed on the computer. This happens in cases where the same computer has been used to interface

with previous products that used FTDI drivers. In this case, users are advised to download and install a

    utility from FTDI at http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/CDMUninstaller_v1.4.zip.

The help file for using this utility is found at:

    http:/www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/CDM_Uninst_GUI_Readme.html

Users will need to use the following hex values to uninstall previous versions of the ftdi drivers:

    Vendor ID (VID): 0403

    Product ID (PID): 6010

After removing the drivers for this PID and VID, re-connect the TSW140x USB cable and check if the

TSW140x ports get listed properly in Device Manager.

    Jim

  • I am using Windows 10. I did not have any FTDI drivers installed before this. The problem is that I do not see any new device in the Device Manager, when I connect either of the two boards (TSW14j56EVM and DAC38RF82EVM) to my PC. May be I am missing something very basic.

  • Saad,

This GUI may not work on Windows10. Can you try installing the drivers and see what happens?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Since there is no executable nor does the device get listed in the device manager, I am unable to install the drivers. How about the GUI compatibility with Windows 7 or Vista?
  • I would further like to add that the 5V_IN status LED (D5) on TSW14J56 is ON when I have 5V on J11 and SW6 is OFF but the LED (D5) turns OFF when I switch SW6 ON. Moreover, when I measure the supplied voltage on J11, it is actually 4.86V instead of 5V. The current drawn (0.75mA) is less than the supply limit of 2mA.

  • Saad,

What do you mean by there is no exe? Are you using the latest version of this GUI? It can be downloaded from the link below. This works on Windows 7.

  • Jim,

Thanks for your response. The problem was that I did not have enough current supplied to either of the boards for them to work. I changed the current limit to more than 2A (instead of 2mA) and they are both automatically detected. The GUI for both boards also works well.
