ADS4126: Clocking options

Hi Team,

I would like to understand a bit more regarding the clocking on the ADS4126.

The datasheet shows an internal block diagram labeled CLOCKGEN. What is this? Can this device generate it's own clock, or it must be synced to an external clock input or oscillator? If the former, what TI clocking device can we recommend?

Carlos,

This block takes the input clock, delays it, then creates an output clock (based off of the input clock) that lines up with the output data. It is not a clock generator. Regarding a clocking device, I would check with the clocking group. One of our boards uses a CDCE72010 which works pretty well.

One other question,

To save power and reduce EMI emissions I would like to switch the supply clock to the ADC off when I’m not measuring. The datasheet states the wake-up time for three of the four power-down modes, but fails to quote it for the ‘Input Clock Stop’ case – see snippet below.
