Can't seem to change Rp_MIN and Rp_MAX

I've just started playing with the EVM and wanted to see what effect changing the Rp_MIN and Rp_MAX values had on the GUI strip chart graphs for raw Proximity Data and Inductance. I'm using the straight-from-the-box EVM with PCB coil and a 1" square of aluminum foil as target.

The test sequence is:

1) Remove target, hit Start, wait for average values to settle, record values.

2) Place foil target 0.015" away from PCB coil, record values as above.

3) Hit Stop, change Rp_MIN or Rp_MAX, goto 1).

I expected to see the Proximity Data and Inductance graphs change with each significant change to Rp_MIN and Rp_MAX. But they do not. Also, if I go to the register settings page and change their value there, the data shown in the Value column does not change, even if I hit the Read All button. It acts as if the Rp_MIN and Rp_MAX values are read-only. Am I missing something?

Another EVM anomaly: I added a file directory under the install directory for saving the register settings. So I click the Save button on the toolbar, navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments LDC1000 EVM GUI\reg settings", set file name "user_set1.csv" and click Save button. It says a file is created, and I can click the toolbar Open button to reload it. But this file does not show up in Windows; not in Windows Explorer, a command shell, or my file manager utility xplorer^2. So I can't use Excel to examine the saved settings.

  • Hi,

Can you give out some pictures? and which versions of GUI do you use?

    Regards, Sunny.

  • Hi Ray,

You have to set the power_mode to standby before changing RPMIN and RPMAX.  Then you have to set it to active to enable conversion for data readout.  This is a bug in the current version v1.0.4.0 of the GUI.  I've released an update 1.0.4.1 for the GUI to automatically execute this sequence.  You should see this version of the GUI on the website tomorrow afternoon.

For the anomaly, do you have write permissions to that folder?  It's best to save it under your documents directory.  To test this, try running the GUI in administrator mode and see if the file is generated.

    Thanks!

  • Sunny,

The About box lists Application Version 1.0.4.0. When I ran the install it indicated an update was available and downloaded/installed it, but I don't recall if it was an update to the GUI app or the firmware.

I can get pics later tonight - what would you like to see?

    Thanks,

    Ray

  • Hi,

I think  has given the answer, if  you still have problem, you can give out the picture that may directly show the problem.

    Regards, Sunny.

  • I am having difficulty changing RpMIN.  I have the latest firmware installed.

I am in the Registers page,  I Read all values, double click on RpMIN and change the value and click Write.

Sometimes it takes but most times not.  If I hit Read and see any of the values change and try it again it usually works.

  • Hi Barry.

The usage model of the LDC1000 is that the part is configured while in sleep mode, and then it performs conversions while active. You might have been in active mode (conversions streaming) when you tried to change the registers.

Please be sure to hit the STOP button on the plot tab (the icon is the red sine-wave). After hitting the STOP button, the device will stop converting, and the button will change to a START button. Once you have stopped the conversion, then go to the register tab and try again.

If that doesn't fix the issue, please make sure you are using the newest version of the GUI.

    Regards,

    Chris O
