Can't install LDC1000EVM driver, using macbook and fusion 6 VM windows 7.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1000EVM

As stated in the subject, The method I have tried is to use the device manager to update the device driver. But after I selected the driver folder (that contains the driver for the LDC1000EVM) it returns that "Windows couldn't find driver software for your device". Have anyone else encountered this problems?

I also tried to use the MATLAB (on OS X) interface but couldn't locate the com port where the devise where attached and thus couldn't communicated with the LDC1000EVM.

I have searched the interweb for different ways to force install drivers and also fusion 6 forums for similar problems. I think that maybe the problem could be that the device name doesn't propagate from the macbook to the VM and that the device driver is connected to the intended hardware with some kind of name. Also tried to change the code in the driver but i couldn't affect that. And also i don't have any experience with driver-programming.

The device is known as "texas instrument input device" in the macbook, but only "unknown device"  in the windows VM.

Any help would be most welcome. Sorry for this long question.

  • Hello Anton,

the LDC1000 GUI and drivers have been developed for Windows, and I am afraid that we do not currently offer OS X support. I am aware that the GUI has been used successfully on a macbook vm. Did you attempt to install the drivers through GUI installation in your vm?

  • Hello Ben

Thanks for you response. The driver installation through the GUI installation did not succeed. So what I have been trying is to install the driver using the device manager. I did install the GUI on a windows PC yesterday after I posted and got the  same problem so I do not think it is related to my VM.

Best regards and many thanks for your time.

  • Hello Anton,

I agree, the issue that you are seeing doesn't appear to be related to your VM.

The GUI automatically installs the necessary drivers. It should not be necessary to install drivers through the device manager.

On your windows machine, please uninstall any existing LDC drivers and GUI. Following a windows re-boot, please try reinstalling the latest GUI (1.041 from www.ti.com/ldc). Does the GUI install kit report an error during driver installation?

Please also confirm which windows version you are using on your PC.

  • Hello Ben!

I did just reinstall the GUI and made sure the drivers did come along with it. But still once again windows didn't install the right drivers. I have noticed that the LDC1000 doesn't preform the selftest (indicated with LEDs) when i plugg it in to the USB socket. Could I have a hardware problem?

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Anton,

The new firmware version 0.3.0.0 and above does not perform a self-calibration.  The behavior of the LED is now indicative of whether the PC Host can properly detect and enumerate the device.  Windows should install the right drivers if you install the new drivers through the GUI installer and restart your system *without* the device plugged in.  If this does not work, however, there is a way to do this manually by accessing the device manager, selecting LDC1000EVM, and installing the driver in the application installation folder /driver (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments LDC1000 EVM GUI\driver" ).  The driver filename should be "evm.inf".

    1. To do this on Windows 7, select "Devices and Printers".

    2. right click "LDC1000EVM (COM#)" > Properties > Hardware Tab > Properties > Change settings

    3. Driver Tab > Update Driver... > Browse my computer for driver software

    4. Enter the location of the application installation subfolder "driver"

    5. Continue on with the dialog and finish

    6. Your device should show up as "EVM" instead of "LDC1000EVM"

    Thanks,

  • Hi Charles

Thank you very much for your trough answer.

I am sorry to say have tried this multiple times just the last day, The device never shows up as a LDC1000EVM but with another name. And when trying to manually install the driver the response i get is : "the best driver for your device is already installed".

I have tried to circumvent this action from windows in device installations settings, but to no effect.

Could it be the name that is a miss match to the driver file?

thank you very much for your help

  • Additionally I have also tried to select driver from list -> have disk -> select drive from GUI installation.

The response from that action is: "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver make sure it is designed to work with windows 32-bit systems"

  • Hi Anton,

It is quite possible that your VMWare settings are incorrect, or the version of Windows you are using is not the latest.  The device driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.  What is the device showing up as if not "LDC1000EVM"?

You also might want to look here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=774

We would recommend using Win7 as the host system.

    Thanks,

  • I have tried the LDC1000EVM on a PC as well. With the same result. The name of the device is "Texas instrument input device".

I am using windows 7 and the system is up to date.

I hope this can help in the diagnosis of the problem. Thank you very much for your help,

    Best regards

  • Hi Anton,

    Try updating the device.

In the GUI try using Tools > Flash Firmware.  After a couple seconds you should see "1 device(s) in BSL found."  Then, select "Open..." and navigate to the firmware subfolder of the application installation directory.  Select "LDC1000 Firmware 0x300.txt."  Press "Update"

    Thanks,

  • I been trying this a couple of times now but every time the response I get is that the device was unplugged (it wasn't).

What can I do about this? I can upload a video of the event sequence if needed.

Thank you for your patience in helping me.

  • Hi Anton,

Please run this on a native Win 7 Host instead of a VM and let me know if you have any issues.  VMs are noted to not re-enumerate USB devices.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Charles!

With your help the problem is now solved!

I used a native Win XP to update the firmware and now it is working perfectly on my mac.

To get it to work on Win XP I had to update .NET 3.5 and also did install SP3 (according to your advice in another thread)

    Thank you very much!

    / Anton

  • Nice.  Let us know if you have any more questions!
