LDC1000 power supply voltage

My system consists of an Arduino Pro Micro 3.3 v connected to a number of 3.3 v sensors and a 2.7 - 3.7 v LiPo battery. I'm wondering if I can add the LCD1000 break-out section of the LCD1000 Evaluation Module as an additional sensor to this system without having to step-up the voltage to 5 v. I'll be designing my own coil and GUI software and expect to draw the clock signal from the Arduino.

Hi Richard,

You will have to boost the voltage to 5V.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the definitive answer. My LDC1000 EVM won't arrive until tomorrow, but having spent several years in eddy current nondestructive testing, I'm aware of the big potential of this device (also in medical instrumentation). Maybe TI will design it for all-3.3 v in the future.

That is definitely within the realm of possibility :-D. What sort of nondestructive testing, if I may ask?

Hi Charles,

Thanks for your interest. I started with design of instruments using eddy current test coils for flaw detection in metal tubing, bar, and wire at production-line speeds, and some hand-held equipment for alloy and heat-treat identification, Now my interest is in wearable instrumentation for the home to screen for sleep apnea. Millions suffer from temporary cessation of breathing which has consequences in heart and cognitive function. I'm excited about possible uses of the LDC1000 in this field.

I would say that the wearable instrument is as much of a mechanical engineering problem as it is an electrical one :-D

Precisely. Which is why it helps to have a broad selection of adhesive tapes, springs, elastic this-and-that, etc. etc. on hand -- and then spend time visualizing, building, and trying. Isn't that what kids do for fun?

Might add that I'm well along with a mechanical design that's wearable and incorporates several sensors. Incidentally, the LDC1000 EVM has arrived and works beautifully, presenting new sensing possibilities plus mechanical design challenges. Do let me know when an all-3.3v version is on the drawing boards.
