LDC1000 Initial Calibration

Hi Team,

I am a little confused about the calibration of the LDC1000/1041/1051 and have a few questions in regards to this on the EVM:

1. What needs to be calibrated in the LDC1000 once per lifetime of the device and what needs to be calibrated once per startup? Looking at the firmware library code, it looks like the values for absolute Rp Min and Max in addition to proximity data and frequency counter would be calibrated once per startup...

2. Is there any hardware calibration for the LDC1000 or is it done all in software?

3. There is a 2-point calibration app note that has been talked about on these forums in regards to the datasheet. Can someone please explain just in general what this app note will address?

Thanks!

  • Hi Sean,

Calibration is needed when system changes result in insufficent measurement accuracy. There a lot of parameters that affect this - for example, an RP measurement will generally see a larger shift across temperature (this is primarily due to the change in resistivity of the conductor - for copper the change is ~3900ppm/deg C).

I am not clear on your question regarding hardware calibration for the LDC1000.
