LDC1000 turn on and initialization of device

Hi,

I am using 3 LDC1000 devices tied to SPI (using chip selects) and would like to know what is required to get the devices to wake up and run. I expected them to run with defaults but see no inductive field drive on board bring up. A read of the device ID is not returning any value.

Should I see the inductive field driven when device is powered on?

Can the device wake up with the power on defaults?

What wakes/starts the circuit?

The register defaults seem to be adequate to energize the inductive circuit.

Hello Jeffrey,

The LDC1000 initiates with the sleep more. First, you need to wake it up by enabling bit 5 in the status register. Please, follow the register map described starting page 14 of the datasheet.

Thank you for the reply...but I am confused. Status register 0x20 is a read only register (according to the document). Is the data sheet wrong? Is that entire register R/W?

Hi Jeffrey,

Sorry for the confusion - the LDC1000 powers on into sleep mode, in which it does not perform conversions. It is recommended to configure the device in sleep mode, and then enter active mode.

Exit sleep mode by setting Power_Configuration.PWR_MODE (register 0x0B - bit[0]) to 1.

Found that the following registers are required to turn on the device and enable conversions.

0x05 <1:0> select external crystal and enable external clock

0x0B <<0> 1 sets active mode enables conversions.

Yes, if you are using an external crystal, you would need to set register 0x05 appropriately! It sounds like you are making progress. We are always here to help if you need it in the future.
