DAC8560EVM USB Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DXP, DAC8560EVM, DAC8568

Hi,

I have the DAC8560EVM with the MMB0 carrier. The USB driver seems to have an issue (Windows 7) and the DXP software does not detect the board. The manual indicates that the driver should change from NI-VISA to DXP when the software is run. The USB enumerates on connection, but the driver does not change and the software times out waiting for the connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

  • Jon,

You might try installing the DXP driver manually using the .inf or the .exe in the DXP installation. That is <installed directory>/DXP/drivers/dxp_driver/

Let me know how that works out for you.

  • I tried that and it did not change anything. The text in the ini file indicates that it is originally a Vista driver, but it has been renamed to Vista&7. It appears to be installed properly as an NI-VISA driver. DXP does not take it over (however that is done). I don't believe I have ever seen a driver change names like they say it does.

  • Jon,

In your "Documents" library or folder, depending on your OS, there is a DXP directory with a folder in it called "saved". there should be a log file called "installdll.log" along with a few other log files. Can you zip those up and share them here?

  • Hi,

I have attached the log file zip. Thank you for helping.

  • I would like to express my serious disappointment at the abandonment of support by TI. More than a month has passed and I am no closer to being able to use this evaluation module. This was purchased as part of a specific assigned project that will now be left incomplete and I have a black eye.

  • Jon,

I suppose the support issue began before you posted this thread? This thread is only ~17 days old. We're still looking into the log files and trying to debug the driver issues. The process of debugging windows drivers can be challenging and isn't easily resolved when we cannot replicate the issue ourselves.

Is there any particular parameter of the device that you are interested in evaluating that we can help with remotely?

  • Pardon my frustration, but I started by using the direct contact link on the website on 4/1. After many repeated attempts, I finally got a response on 4/17 that I would have to use the forum. That was after much effort at trying to troubleshoot the problem myself, including having to manually find the device specific config files and then where they needed to be located because the built in link did not work.

My real need is to evaluate the DAC8568 with an external reference over a temperature range of 10C to 45C. We currently use the internal reference and on power-up we measure the outputs (12 total) with a MUX, DAC and decent reference. That results in a corrected voltage table. Simplification of the circuitry is critical due to temperature rise from the circuitry. I need to evaluate how good it can be without the MUX's and DAC.

There is also an issue with output voltage accuracy above ~4.8 Volts. It may be a result of our calibration efforts or getting too close to the rail on the internal op amps.

  • Jon,

No need to apologize - it certainly seems like you've had an unfortunate experience with our support tree to say the least. That is not the way that we expect things to work here. We'll focus on rectifying that experience from here onward.

As I mentioned - debugging the Windows driver is a challenging task and, to be honest, is somewhat of an on-going task over the lifetime of the driver. Even once we get the installation functioning on 99% of computers, there will still 1% that encounter issues. Being that we're all also in a corporate environment, there's a whole slew of conceivable IT obstacles that complicate things with administrative rights on a given PC. While this effort is happening in the background, lets try to focus on your issue at hand...

If it's okay to contact you at the email address you registered on the E2E Community with, I'd like to take the discussion to email at this point.

  • The registered email is fine. Thank you for your understanding.

  • So everyone knows: I was quite stressed and upset when I posted the prior message. Kevin jumped in and provided exceptional support which allowed me to get the hardware working. Thank you.
