ADS888x USB-Styx with Windows 7

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO

Greetings Greg,

I am having the same issue with the ADS888X USBStyx driver installation on Win7 64 bit. The error is 'problem starting libusb0.dll. The specified module could not be found'

I would appreciate if you could forward the solution.

Thanks,

Jeff

  • Hi,

I have the same problem as the poster with the MMB0+ADS881EVM. Your provided installer fails and exits on my machine. I am on Win10. Any advice?
    Thanks
  • It is a bit late for the poster above but for the next guy with this problem. I was able to install the USBStyx driver for 64bit on my Win10 machine but I had to do the following steps. After this the driver installation succeeded and the MMB0 board is seen as a NI-VISA USB device instead of unrecognized.

I had to bypass the Win10 driver signature enforcement. To do this.
    1) Restart Win10 with advanced boot options by holding the SHIFT key while clicking the restart function.
    2) When booting, select the Troubleshoot option.
    3) Choose the Advanced options and then Startup Settings and then Restart again.
    4) On restart you should see a menu with numbered options. Choose #7 (Disable driver signature enforcement)
    5) After restart, install the drivers from the MSI driver file.
At the next reboot the driver enforcement should automatically be restored back to enabled.
  • Thomas-

This is getting a bit off topic from the original poster's thread title since it deals with Win10 instead of Win7, but......

Thanks for the succinct instructions, I can vouch that they work perfectly. In order to use these drivers with Win10, driver signing MUST be turned off. The problem is not that the ROMs are incorrect or the reset button is broken or other similar things I've seen on this forum. There was also a link that said to go into the command prompt and type in "bcdedit /set testsigning on" (or "off"). This didn't work either.

I am running a Win10 64 bit system. I followed all the instructions in the TI literature with no success. When I looked in the Device Manager, the board showed up as an Unknown USB device.

I downloaded the 64 bit driver (see further up in this thread) ftp:/.../mmb0_driver_install_x64-V1.0.0.0.msi. Then I followed your step by step instructions. At step 5, from Windows Explorer, I double clicked on the driver .msi that I had just downloaded and chose all the install anyway options. Then I rebooted.

I ran ADCPro with my ADS1278EVM and all works fine now. Everything seems to now be in working order. (I do have sporadic data errors trying to use the histogrammer, but that's probably something else.)

Very interestingly, when you first plug the MMB0 into the USB or after pushing the MMB0 reset button, it shows up in Windows Device Manager as "NI-VISA USB Devices > MMB0(NI-VISA)". After you run ADCPro and select and load an EVM plug in, it changes names in Device Manager to "libusb-win32 devices > USBStyx". Odd.

Thanks for posting this, it is very helpful. I should think that TI should either update their software so that it works smoothly with Win10 or they should update their installation instruction documents to include this information. It seems like this issue is tripping up lots of people. And it's going to keep happening. As of March 2017, Win10 is now about 25% of the market up from about 16% in May 2016.

    Thanks!
