ADS7952 / about absolute input range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7952

Hi,

Our customer has some questions about ADS7952.

*Q1

What does 「Absolute input range」 parameter mean ? In case of Range2, even if we break the spec min=-0.2 V, max=2*VREF + 0.2 V, I beleive the davice doesn't have damage.  Because the spec isn't ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM RATINGS.Is my understanding correct?

*Q2

Could we input 4Vmax at AINP pin for Range1 mode[default] ? Customer is going to set VA=5V , Vref=2.048V.

  • Kato-san,

    Hi.

    *A1

“Absolute input range” is the operational range of the ADC input given the Vref, +VA and Range1/2 values selected.

So you are right. If you violate this spec, but stay within the Absolute Maximum Rating of AINP < -0.3 to +VA to VA, you will not damage the device.

    *A2

You could set the device as you have described, without causing damage. However, your operational range is 0V to 2.048V. All voltages at AINP greater than Vref would saturate the ADC and output the full scale digital code.
