ADS1220 delay after changing multiplexer or gains

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220

We are trying to use the ADS1220 ADC multiplexer to switch between two differential channels and to perform calibration. We are also using the PGA with different gains.

Would changing the multiplexer or the gains require some settling delay before the reading becomes valid/stable?

Are we going to see any spikes?

I didn't see anything on the datasheet

Thanks for your help

  • Hi Soufiane,

A couple of things to consider.  One is any analog filter settling when switching between mux inputs.  The second is any possible overloading of the PGA when switching between inputs.  Slower data rates will average out any transistion noise, but higher data rates may capture spikes if there is an input overload condition or analog settling.  You should always make sure that the gain is set appropriately prior to changing the mux to prevent PGA overload.

    Best regards,
