help, wrong voltage to DGND pin and ADS1298 send wrong ID register for me !!!

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

hi to every one.

i have an ADC1298 and create for it PCB and board. it work correctly until tonight that I connect to DGND pin a Voltage about 3.3v for a 15 second. after I understand this mistake, unplug my connector from ADS1298 Board. after that I correct mistake and DGND voltage is 0V. but when I want to read ADS1298 ID, it's returned 0x0C instead of 0x92.
I Check my Circuit and every thing was fine. but still my ADS1298 returned 0x0C instead of 0x92 for ID register.

In my board AVDD is +2.5V, AVSS is -2.2V, DVDD is +3.3V. when other 3.3 voltage connect to DGND and AGND , AVSS, AVDD and DVDD have not any voltage.

please help me !!!

what happened to ADS1298 ?

in your opinion my ADS1298 IC Has been damaged?

Thanks.

  • Hi Mohsen,

It is hard to know for sure whether the device has been damaged based on this information alone. Certainly, you did exceed the absolute maximum ratings (i.e. AVSS to DGND is never to exceed the range of -3V to +0.2V; momentarily, AVSS - DGND = -2.2V - 3.3V = -5.5V).

If the correct supplies are in place and powered-up in the correct sequence (see page 42 of the datasheet), the first thing I would try is to probe the /DRDY pin. If the device powers on properly, /DRDY should pulse automatically at the default Data Rate of 500SPS. Have you looked at this?

If /DRDY does not pulse, leave the supplies connected and issue an extra HW /RESET pulse. If /DRDY still does not pulse, then the part might be damaged.

    Best Regards,

  • if IC damaged in this situation, how we can use it again correctly ?

my question is that if IC send wrong ID , is any way to prepare it for use again ?
