ADS 1291 Conversion time calculations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1291

Hi to all,

In my project i am using ADS1291 24 bit ADC. My question is how to calculate the total data conversion time takes for the converter to output the converted data after issuing START COMMAND to the ADC with the diffe- rent Data rates, Different SPI Clock.and also any one please write to me what is the settling time given in page 31 of ADS1291 datasheet.I am confusing with the data sheet.

Thanks & Regards

  • Hello Narasimha,

    Thanks for your question.

The settling times listed in Table 11 are given as a function of the modulator period, tMOD. The modulator in the ADS1291 runs at 128 kHz, so one tMOD cycle is 1 / 128 kHz = 7.8125 us. The settling time is different for each of the data rate settings listed to the left (DR[2:0]). For DR[2:0] = 001 (250 SPS), the settling time is equal to 2052 * 7.8125 us = 16.03 ms. The settling time is not dependent on the SPI clock (SCLK) rate.

Does that clarify it for you?

    Best Regards,
